Why is my Sender ID changed when I send SMS globally?

Question

Why is my Sender ID changed when I send SMS globally?

Applies To

  • Outbound SMS
  • Sender ID
  • SMS Filtering
  • Delivery Receipts (DLRs)

Answer

Vonage generally supports dynamic Sender IDs to all destinations. There are a few exceptions where it is mandatory to use a local long virtual number (LVN) as the Sender ID, otherwise messages will be rejected. This applies to the US and Canada. See US SMS Features and Restrictions for more information about these restrictions.

There are some destinations that implement SMS filtering, where there might be some modification made on the Sender ID to ensure delivery. More information on specific restrictions by country can be found in our Country-Specific Features and Restrictions section.

Delivery Receipts (DLRs) are widely supported, however there are a few exceptions where they are not provided by local networks. The main markets where DLRs are not provided by local networks are:

  • Egypt
  • Mexico
  • Brazil
  • US
  • Canada
