Can I use a static IP address instead of rest.nexmo.com or api.nexmo.com?

Question

Instead of using rest.nexmo.com or api.nexmo.com, can I use a static IP address?

Applies To

  • REST API
  • Static IP Address
  • Firewall Settings

Answer

Vonage serves the rest.nexmo.com and api.nexmo.com endpoints via a Content Delivery Network (CDN) provider, as well as directly. The goal of implementing a CDN is to serve content to all Vonage API users with both high availability and high performance.

If you try to reach Vonage API services with a static IP address, you will experience issues. You will need to use rest.nexmo.com or api.nexmo.com. It is recommended that you do not specifically allow outgoing connections to any of our REST API IP addresses on your firewall.

We recommend against storing local copies of these certificates in your platform or application, but they can be found in Certificate for *.nexmo.com.
